I scan 645 format and print on a Epson R800 printer. Most of the time I have used Epson Premium Glossy paper. It works well for slide film, but I do a lot of BW and wonder if there is a better paper to use for that purpose. I would like to try a rag or fine art paper. Any thought to what paper I should try.. Thanks Monte Johnson.
Monte,
The selection of quality matte papers made for use with inkjet printers is extensive. I try out and test as many as I can but have not really covered close to all that are probably worth of consideration.
Epson of course has several options including Enhanced Matte, Watercolor and Velvet. They are not bad, but do not compare to some of the fine art papers that are usually a little or a lot more expensive. Some of the makers I have found have excellent papers for black and white because they reproduce a superior Dmax (more depth in the blacks) include Premier Art Imaging (Luster Rag), PermaJet [distributed by Jobo Fototechnik] Alpha Fine Art, Moab Paper's Entrada. A few of the sources for inkjet paper include:

Thanks David that helps a lot. I do not mind spending a little more money for prints I want to hang on my wall. I will say Epson makes some nice paper. I have used several of their papers and have been impressed with the results. I hope to have an Epson 2400 printer someday, but for now I am happy with the R800. Monte Johnson.
