I'm fairly new to photography and always reading about tips and lens. Some told me that i don't have to only buy canon lens for my reble xti but didn't tell me what to look for in a lens that makes it fit and work with my camera.
There are a number of independent 3rd party lenses made that have mounts and support use with Canon EOS camera. The two best rated and most popular brands are Sigma and Tamron, both of which have websites with all of the various lenses and models in a variety of focal lengths, zoom ratios, as well as special purpose and single focal length lenses like macro available.
thanks, i'll take alook on there sites

Forget the filters, a total waste of money, use the provided lens cap to protect the lens. Other than a polarizer (circular) a filter is not needed for most digital photography.

The best buy and very good performance is the Canon 18-55mm kit lens that can be bought with the camera, but for more money the F/2.8 EFS 17-55mm has some advantages, but a greater price. This is a focal length range that most photographers will use the most. If you need from experience a shorter or longer lens, then start shopping.
As to prices go to PriceGrabbe.,com for the best quotes, but also read the ratings on the "stores" that have the lowest prices and avoid those with bad reputations.
