What LCD to choose

I am about to embark on an LCD trip. I do quite a bit of photo editing (RAW) of my 1dMKIIn shots.

I am currently using a (two display) configuration. One of the displays is calibrated with my spyder for image display and the other is used for tools/panels. I am now in the position to spend around 1700 euro on a new display setup. I already looked a lot on the internet and am considering one of the following options:

1) 2x NEC 2190
2) 1x HP 30" (model 3065)

3) 1x NEC 2690 with optional extra display for panels so that I can use the 2690 for image display only.

Can you guys help me with some advice on the best configuration? May be another config. is better?

In addition, some time ago I bought a matrox Millenium P650 PCIe 128 video card. IS that still usable with any of the three configurations?

If not, what video card should I get?

First off from both an economic and practical perspective a HD wide format LCD with a 2:3 format aspect ratio provides sufficient room at one side for palettes compared to the older, typical CRT 3:4 aspect ratio screen format.

Second, great size can be a disadvantage because at the much higher resolution of LCD's you will want the screen not too far away because small text and image detail will be hard to see.

HP does not manufacture LCD's they just buy them OEM from one of the prime manufacturers and put their label on - so make your choice from the prime manufacturers like NEC, Eizo, Sony, Samsung and LG Electronics. And only select models that are specifically designated made for pro-graphics use.

Besides the "90" series NEC models, you might want to look at the Eizo ColorEdge models, the Samsung SynchMaster 244T.

If your Matrox Millennium video card has a DVI output connector it will probably work OK, but if not you will need to upgrade to a video card model that outputs digital directly (DVI), LCD's are digital devices and there is a significant loss in performance if they are fed an analog signal from an older video card.
