I am not tring to start a war here, but I am weighing all my options out. The D200 looks good but coming from medium format am I better to go with the 5D if I can. At this point the way things are going in my area I am going digital cold turkey. I will be selling my Roleiflex and Fuji. Only way I can really aford to do this. So I need to make the right decision the first time. There will not be a second chance. Most owners of the D200 really like the choice they made, but much is true of the 5D people. I am not tring to be a pain here just looking at my ooptions. I am also looking at the Alpha 100 which is not to be found yet. As most of you know by now I am a BW shooter so I will still do more BW even in digital. I have heard much from the Nikon people here all of which I have respect for there thoughts. I would like to here from the 5D owners. Monte.
Monte,
I don't own a 5D and the only Canon camera I own is a 2MP point and shoot. One thing I wanted to point out is the relatively small difference in the MP count between the D200 (10MP) and the 5D (12MP). With 12MP you get about 10% more pixels in image height and image width. While you can get a very respectable 16x24" print from 10MP, with a 12MP the size increases to about 18x27" at the same dpi. So I wonder if the extra $1300 or so for the 5D really is worth it. $1300 would buy you some nice glass! Just my perspective.

Frans Ken Rockwell taled about that. I believe the answer for me is probably no I cannot justify the price difference. Mnay will clain the image quality with prime lens are better from the 5D,but for the most part that seems to be only a real difference at higher ISO speeds which are not a real concern for me. I plan on getting the best lens to suit my needs. Thanks still open Monte
Frans & Monte,
Please see my comment on other thread.
If you compare mathematically the FULL SENSOR of 12.8MP to a 24x16 sensor its only 6MP.
The answer is to get both a 20d and a 5d, when going on any job you need a backup. a 1ds M2 and a 5d backup would be better but what the heck, I was always told if you are going to dream, dream big... Get 3 39mp Hasselblad's LOL
The D200 is supposed to be a tough dependable workhorse but then so is Canons 5D.
I wouldn't buy on megapixels alone as you well know.
Any chance of borrowing or having a chance to use either camera before you lay out hard dollars?
I traded my 30d for a 5d and wouldn't go back again.
main reason no crop factor
nothing like a full frame DSLR
Don't need 17mm lenses
