Viewing Images on Mac & PC

I use Mac. (:,' Most the people I share my pictures with are on a PC. ):,'

I like PCs. I've been using them since 1995, and continue to use them in the workplace. But when it comes to viewing photographic images, well... The pictures I see on my Mac are definitely not the same mess of things my friends and myself usually end up seeing on the other end. ):,'

My question is, without calibrating everyone's monitor, what can I do to solve this problem? How can I predict how my pictures will look on PC?

I shoot with a Nikon D70S, and edit Raw in Photoshop CS2.

"without calibrating everyone's monitor" That really is not possible of course, nor would it accomplish much. Ever wonder visiting in someone's home why they don't adjust the color of the TV? The answer is they just don't see the off-color you do. Seeing color critically is a learned perceptive discretion like acquiring a taste for some kinds of foods.

One of the few ways you can assure somewhat better image viewing on other systems, and that is cross-platform viewable on both PC's and Macs is to send the photos as Acrobat .PDF files. This is easy to process and export from a file open in Photoshop from a Mac.

You might give it a try.

I'd also suggest setting the gamma on your MAC to 2.2 (Windows default) and the color temperature to 6500 (sRGB default) so that you can closer approximate what will be seen on a Windows machine. And suggest to your friends that they set their color temperature to 6500 also. I think that by default, Windows monitors are set to something closer to 9300, which is too cool for viewing images correctly.

Larry,

The standard monitor display default for Apple Macs has been D65 and gamma 2.2 for about 10 years now. Although the native color temperature of a CRT is 9300K, the native color temperature of LCD is close to 6500K.
