Very "Low light" compact camera wanted..

I'm an enthusiastic amateur who dislikes using the flash...
My Canon Digital Rebel XT is great in low light, but there's times I don't want'to lug it with me.

So, I'm looking for a compact camera with very high ISO, 1600 or even higher for "existing light" surroundings that will let me take good shots of performers moving around on stage.

There is such a compact camera, Fuji F30 which I may buy, but I need more info on "satisfied customers" first before I buy it.

Do you have any info on a compact low light camera that has proved to be
successful with all or most consumers?

One other thing to consider as well as the highest iso level is quality of the resulting image, you may be best off to step back a few megapixels as lower megapixels=bigger photo sites=better pixels if low light is your main concern, especially with the the small sensors involved in compacts.

I just got a Panasonic TZ1 10x zoom, anti-shake pocket camera and am very satisfied with it for low light.

Night street photography - hand-held at ISO 80 without a shake. The anti-shake sort of makes High ISO moot.

Folks love to gripe about "noise" these days, but try it with film: no anti-shake and very expensive, and the "grain" is of course "noise" particularly high ISO film.

You can take a lot of shots on a digital, even using "burst" mode. With film, the equivalent of one hour's digital shooting with digital would cost a fortune!
