I just want to make everyone aware of a problem with the combination of Epson V500 scanner and Silverfast Ai Studio that Silverfast has failed to address. It is impossible to make scans with the V500 and Ai Studio that are more than about 80-100MB in size. If I try to scan a small print in grayscale at 3200dpi, for example, it may result in a scanned image of about 100MB. Silverfast will seem create an empty image file but the scanner never activates. Only by reducing the resolution to reduce the scanned image size can I get the scan to work. However, if I use the Epson scan utility, I can make any size scan of the image.
Silverfast was able to reproduce this problem in their labs in April 2009, but as of this date has not chosen to fix the problem. Their explanation is that I am the only person who has reported the problem, so even though they can reproduce the problem, it isn't a big enough problem to fix. I manage a development function, so I understand the triage process for bugs, but I of course don't find this specific situation acceptable <g>. My question is -- why am I the only person who has reported this to them? Am I really the only person who uses the V500 with Silverfast Ai Studio? or is everyone else doing lower-resolution scans?
