Downloading digital images to labs are a common practice now for quick turn around for prints. Are there any out there who has experience down loading film scans for prints? At this point I have little control unless I print my own, but when printing 16+20 prints that is not an option for me. I have to depend on a lab to do this. Problem is they do a good scan but do not always get the print the way I would like. I have considered doing my own scans so I could have the image how I want it. Then down loadi the image to a lab for print. My question is has anyone had good success doing this with film scans? Monte Johnson.
Sure, But if you're not have good luck you should ask the lab for a profile. That way when you see it correctly on your calibrated system, the print will be a closer match. And you should request a test print or just get one before getting 20.
Two labs to try are White House Custom Color and Fine Print.
The Slide Printer is another mail order lab that photographers are having good results with.
After I replied, I went back and read your original post again. I thought you were asking about 16 or 20 prints, not 16x20 prints. I'm used to seeing an "x" for two dimensions in a print size.
Sorry sometimes I am hard to follow. I did mean 16X20 prints.I have never used a digital online lab. My lab does the scanning and printing. Just wanted to know if anyone has had luck scanning then printing from an online digital lab. Monte Johnson
I realized that. All three of the labs I provided links to do an excellent job, and will work with you to get the color right. Fine Print doesn't do single prints, only multiples for artists to resell them.
Have you considered 12x18 instead of 16x20. The size is almost the same and the prints have the same large print impact. But the cost can be substantially different depending on where you get them printed. I use Costco and upload for 12x18. The print cost is $2.99 and I pick the print up at my local store.
Thanks for the information Larry. This gives me more to go on. I will check these labs out.
