I have been a dedicated film shooter until about a year ago. For my first digital cam purchase I chose a Fugifilm S3000 and have really enjoyed using it. For my serious shots however I still rely on my Canon Rebel SLR.
I am looking to move up to a Canon DSLR and was first thinking about the Digital Rebel. I think, however I want more than an entry level. Can anyone offer input as to the benefits of the 20D and the new 30D over the Rebel?
Thanks!

Hi misspix, I've got the 20D so here goes.
When I first decided to go DSLR I went to the local bigbox stores around to check them out. Looked at the XT in the begining and thought it to small, wasn't very comfortable and didn't really like the controls.
Looked at the 20D, felt heaps more rugged and a better fit for my hand. Love the controls on it, it just feels right, also I think the quick dial on it is incredible and can't figure why not all DSLRs' have one.
20D --- XT
1/8000 sec SS --- 1/4000 sec SS
5 fps --- 2.8 fps
Max ISO 3200 --- Max ISO 1600
9 focus points --- 7 focus points
Wired remote --- Wired and Infrared remote
Could go on more but....
Really depends on what your gonna use it for. Would you need the faster shutter and higher ISO? Do you want to tote around a body that's just under 2 lbs. or one that's just over 1 lbs.?
Also the 20D isn't very descreet compared to other DSLRs' I've heard, people will generally turn in a bit of a shock whenever I machine gun it for something. LOL, my friends nikon is so much quieter.
Good luck.
Edit: Oops, sorry when you said Rebel did you mean the DRebel(300D) or the Rebel XT(350D)?
Here's a handy link I've used for comparisons.
Hi Newbie,
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the Rebel 300D (I think). I've gone into a little info overload,LOL. I appreciate your input and the link.
Basically, I am looking for the instant gratification of a digital with the control and lens flexibility of a SLR. I want to be able to market my photo's, so I want a camera that is affordable but offers a higher quality than what I currently have.
It seems the more I learn, the more I need
or maybe it's just more that I want.
I'll check out your link, thanks again!
okay, I give. What is PM? PhotoManic? Guilty as charged
LOL, you've got another PM.
Upgrade, side step really.
Why not just get a 350D or the 20D if you want a better body, Unless you need a body like a brick and fast frame rates I suggest you don't pay for it!
I looked at the digital rebel and used 20D then went for the 30D.
anywho as the price on used 20D's was to much.
What I found about the rebel is its a smaller screen on the rear and the controls were smaller to on the rear.
For me and not necessarily someone with smaller fingers this was an issue.
If you can borrow a digital camera from a friend if even for a few hours and see which one appeals to you.
I made several trips to the store as well..thats what they are there for.(one of the reasons)
Trying the units besides to make a proper choice.
But I wouldn't use the instore dabbling as a sole evaluation of whaich one you want.
