TV remote with XT and another

Hello all,

I have been reading the post about IR. What can you do with your TV remote to test your camera for IR?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT.
Also, I know nothing about studio lighting. Someone has 2 stands, 2 lights needs 2 bulbs need replaced, one light with barn doors, 2 umbrellas all for $250 used for 1 year. Is this a good price?

Put an infrared filter on the front of the lens and take a picture of the remote while pointed at the camera and see if the camera can see the infrared light coming from the remote.

But I've learned over the years that this is really a false indication of infrared sensitivity because you can't tell whether the canera has enough sensitivity to actually capture in infrared.

Best way is to do the research about your camera on the web before investing in a filter and not knowing if it will really work.

Traditional infrared filters are 87, 88A or 89B. Some people use dark red filters. Either way you have to take the color out (desaturate) in your editing program for it to look like true infrared.
