What do you mean by "package"? Are you referring to body and lens kit? Depends on which lenses you own that already work with the D300. If you don't already own any Nikon lenses, it depends on your shooting style, although a great many amateurs seems to think the 18-200mm is the solution for everything.

As a walkin'-'round, shootin'-stuff lens, it is certainly the most versatile lens in Nikon's arsenal. Stopped down two or three stops, it is more than adequately sharp for most personal photography. I think even the most anal pixel gazer would find little to fault with a well made exposure at f/8.0 or f/11.

Now with the D700 and all my fine AI-S primes, I will still keep the D300 specifically for this lens.

I noted the "TRYING TO START PHOTO BUSINESS" comment at the bottom of your email and think that providing more specific information about how you plan on using the camera system would be helpful to those who might have some suggestions. There is no one camera and lens that fits all occasions but if we knew what you plan on shooting with it and the conditions under which you would normally be operating, we could provide a more informed recommendation.
