I am having trouble opening raw files (.nef). I am using PS Elements 4.0. When I open raw files all I get is a very rudimentary editor offering only two editing options (exp comp. and white balance). I took an online class on Elements 4.0 a while back and the information showed a much more in depth editor offering many editing options (histograms, temp, tint, contrast, shadows, saturation, etc). Why can't i access this better editor. I believe I have downloaded all the updates from adobe.
Also, does anyone have difficulty opening raw files in Nikon Capture NX. Nikon support suggested disabling alot of my windows xp security functions which I really don't want to do. I cannot open any raw files in Nikon Capture NX. Please help

You probably need to download and install the latest camera raw plugin from the Adobe web side.

I downloaded the latest camera raw plug-in. One thing that confuses me is that I did not see my camera listed (Nikon D80). I'm sure this camera is supported. By downloading the most recent update does this include all previous updates or do I need to search for the specific update listing my D80 (I never actually found an update listing the D80).

The latest version is 3.7 and it supports the D40. The D80 is a slightly older model and has been supported since a prior version of the plugin. If you read the documentation it lists all the cameras supported. Click on the read me file:
