Has anyone here ever transferred a photo to a ceramic tile? i've seen these in framing/photo/painting shops, and with a good photo, it could be pretty cool. I'd actaully like to learn to do it myself, rather than pay to have it done. I have heard they aren't really baked onto the tile as in a kiln, but some other process. what might it be? where can i find details? thanks
This came up in Google. Check out Cafe Press and click on the link to make your own stuff.
The Grandpa-in-law (my son's Father-in-law and his wife) have "Craft weekends" with the grand-kids. He had some left over ceramic tiles (4"x4") from a bathroom project. He used the post-it photo paper to print photos and had the grandkids stick the pictures (of themselves) on the tiles. He then spray-laquored them and stuck some suede to the bottom. We now have a different set of drink coasters.
As to having a "professional" job done of transfer, I haven't a clue.
I believe the process requires a fairly expensive machine and unless you're planning on going into it commercially you might be better served to simply have them made for you. This place will make them at $15 a pop.
