Talking Pictures
“Bike Boy”

During the summer of 2005, I attended a photography course in Prague in the Czech Republic. One Saturday we took a field trip to the town of Ceské Budejovice near the Czech border with Austria. There, one of my fellow photographers hurriedly summoned me to the scene of this moody photograph, which I have to come to call "Bike Boy." The boy played with sticks and stones at the edge of a backwater canal for a while. As he tired of the game, he walked away and I took this picture. Was the smashed bicycle his? I'll never know but it sure would have made for a better story if it was...

Technical Info: Leica M7, 90mm Summicron lens, Ilford XP2 Super, orange B+W filter. Film processed in the Czech Republic and later scanned on a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 scanner. Image cropped and Curves adjusted in Adobe's Photoshop CS. Exposure data not recorded.
