Switching from PC to Mac

David,
The next challenge I face is transitioning from my PC to my new Mac system.
I work with LIghtroom 2 and Photoshop CS 4. My entire library is stored via Lightroom and includes about 25000 images dating back 6 years. They are all backed up on an external drive in a single folder -"Lightroom Photos" with the usual subdirectory breakdown by date and subject.
Now I need to switch to a MAC pro system. I will preinstall Lightroom and Photoshop (already have the cross platform upgrade) Can I simply plug the external drive into the MAC and drag the entire "Lightroom Photos" file into the MAC and then import into Lightroom? Will lightroom recognize the subfolders? And, what about the lightroom library backup? Can that be reinstalled cross platform? Any help or resources much appreciated.

Generally all standard image data files are multi-platform by nature. You can open any of the standard image file with any computer and access the same result. That Adobe would in some way make LightRoom files different for Windows than for other platforms is not very likely. However the supporting software may have some differences between the Windows and Apple Mac versions.

So, it would be my advise to consult the documentation or query Adobe if there is a method to do what you plan that will avoid any problems.

Mac mini configuration

Am planning to switch to Mac mini after reading many of your columns!! I noticed in recent issue of Shutterbug you were doing an article on the mini. Any projection when??? In any case, I would appreciate your sharing how you would configure the mini!!!-------Thanks------------Ken Crossland
