Spyder3 Elite

Datacolor is releasing Spyder3Elite this month. The colorimeter is smaller and its aperture is larger. The calibration process is 29% faster and now there is a recalibration feature that will calibrate your monitor in less than half the new time. It also includes the Colorimeter feature which lets you take a reading of a color patch so you can see the values in RGB, XYZ, xyY, Kelvin, Luv, foot Lamberts and L*a*b values. There is another feature that will let you see the accuracy of the calibration by viewing different images with the new monitor profile active, it will let you zoom in on the images so you can see each in detail. Also, you will be able to calibrate all of your systems to one calibration target keeping in mind of the white and black luminance and studio lighting conditions. They have added more custom targets that you can calibrate to. There is the ability to run the calibration from a single screen because it incorporates all of the setting selections into one window to decrease the amount of time that it takes to prepare for the actual calibration. The Spyder3 now measures the ambient light and it is smart enough to know the difference between actual lighting changes versus studio flashes. The software automatically checks the validity of the calibration and profile.

Yes, but also completely on topic. When it is information I find relevant to my work, I rather see it as an announcement. I can not begin to tell you what a difference colour management has made in my work. I have no questions for him currently, but it would be very nice to be able to discuss the use of such products with a knowledgeable person from their source. Everyone reading the forum would benefit. Colour management is a daunting endeavor to confront, and there is a LOT of misinformation going around. It would be great for anyone setting out upon it to have a company rep on line to discuss it with.
I moderate a number of forums and read many more. There is virtually no input from anyone repenting the companies whose products we are discussing. Certainly, they would be promoting their own products, but since we are already using them, they could be a great resource.
Early in the history of digital camera, a Nikon tech rep did join a group (Coolpix 990) and his input was great. However a chorus of lurking gremlins who never contributed a thing to the forum, started chanting "Spam" and he quickly left - much to our loss.
I stomp purveyors of bodily enlargement aids, penny stocks and prescription drugs, with a vengeance. That is truly Spam. I would welcome any photography-related company not only to read, but to also participate in any forum I monitor, but they stay away. I am sure the Nikon rep was personally hurt by the attacks. He was extremely helpful and they were terribly rude. Were I in his boots, I would have left as well. Our loss.

I could agree, Larry, if the post didn't fit the SPAM profile so neatly: Poster registers today on two different forums with exactly the same post on both. I agree with you about the value of serious, knowledgeable discussion on products. But, given that this one is at least two days from any definitive info being published by ColorVision, that's not what's happening here. What is happening is freebie advertising, and I don't think I'm being overzealous by objecting.....

Bill,
I agree, although I wonder what the source and motive is other than some kind of look at me self-agrandizement.
If we had at least a modicum of regulation, including the state registration of all computers similar to automobiles so the owner is identified and a matter of record, as well as ISP's that require identification such as a bank requires to open an account, as well as a law disallowing the use of screen names, people using the internet might behave a little more responsibly.
