Spud Is a Hi-Res 24-Inch Monitor That Collapses like an Umbrella for Traveling Photographers

If you’re like many photographers who travel with a laptop and often wish you had a larger monitor for working on your images, look no further: SPUD is an innovative 24-inch projection screen that weighs less than two lbs. and collapses down to the size of a book in under 10 seconds.

This admittedly weird-looking unit features a 16:9 aspect ratio and comes with built-in speakers and an integrated rechargeable battery that lasts up to 10 hours. The unit can also be powered by 12V DC when the battery runs low.

With both USB and HDMI ports, SPUD works equally well with a computer, phone or tablet, and can even function as a second desktop monitor while working from home. There’s a brightness dial on the back, for adjusting the monitor based upon ambient light levels.

And if you regularly display your images while visiting clients or friends, this could be the perfect solution to do so on a larger monitor by uploading images to a mobile device and leaving your computer at home. With 37 days to go in the Kickstarter campaign, the folks at SPUD have blasted past their modest $33,000 goal and have raised over $365,000.

There a backing goal of $385 for SPUD, with delivery expected next June. That’s not such a long wait for something this cool. You can read more on the SPUD Kickstarter page. In the meantime, take a look at the demo video below,
