Sony’s New RX100 V Compact Camera Packs a Big Punch with High-Speed AF, 1-Inch Sensor and More

Sony just dropped the curtain on the 20.1-megapixel RX100 V, a new flagship model in their powerful Cyber-shot RX line of 1-inch sensor compact digital cameras. Sony says their latest model has the fastest AF speed, most AF points, and fastest continuous shooting speed of any compact camera.

The Sony RX100 V’s hybrid AF system acquires focus in just 0.05 seconds and can shoot continuously at 24fps at full 20.1-megapixel resolution, with AF/AE tracking for up to 150 shots. The camera boasts 315 focus points covering approximately 65% of the frame.

Here are seven full resolution test images we shot with an early production version of the Sony RX100 V.The Sony RX100 V utilizes a Zeiss Vario-Sonar T* 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens for great low-light performance. Sony developed a new 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor for the RX100 V, along with an enhanced image processing system for maximum speed, optimum image quality, and buffer performance.

Enhancements to the camera's autofocus system include an AF-A mode for automatic switching between continuous and single-shot AF. The Sony RX100 V also has a high-speed anti-distortion shutter that minimizes the “rolling shutter” effect when photographing fast-moving subjects. The Sony RX100 V's advanced video capabilities include full pixel readout without pixel binning for capturing superb 4K results with minimal moire. The camera can record video at up to 100 Mbps in 4K, and 50 Mbps during full HD shooting. The RX100 V can also record super-slow motion video at 40X slower than the standard rate—delivering a series of high-speed action sequences with optimum detail and resolution.

The new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 V is scheduled to ship this month at a price of $1,000. You can read more on Sony’s website.
