Could it be an interesting spring/summer?? Check out Sony'site: http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cmos/cmos1.html
Wonder what their DSLR cameras will showup with? Sport photographers may have to put in their orders early.
It sure looks great on the site... but anything can look great on the site. We're just going to have to sit back and wait until these things actually become available to test in the real world.
One thing's for certain - though this may not be the breakthrough Sony's touting on the site, you know for a dead-certain fact that that breakthrough IS coming.

Hi,
This is hardly suprising. Sony has been producing commercial high end video cameras for many, many years. Many TV/video cameras used by the networks are made by
Sony.
Video cameras work a little differently; they ALWAYS shoot at 1/30 of a second since that's the video standard. That said, Sony certainly has some excellent R&D. I'm certain we'll continue to see wonderful technical innovations from that quarter.
This technology is for both video and digital mediums. Wonder what the storage devices are going to be like? At 60 frames per second an 8 gig device is going to get eaten fast. Looks like Sony is going to stur the pot a little. Wonder whose glass they'll use Zeiss, Sony(minolta)or maybe a little of both? Sony Pro equipment is considered second to none, so if they do enter the pro DSLR field Nikon and Canon will have some STIFF competition to put it mildly.
Like I said this spring and summer is going to be fun. We all are going to gain I believe.

Yes, Sony has a lot of experience producing pro equipment. I would imagine that the glass will be made by either Sony itself or in the Minolta lens plants. The Zeiss lenses Sony uses are actually made by Sony under license from Zeiss.
So does this mean we can start rolling camera when play begins, and just simply pick out the frame that captures the moment best? Is sports photography (Or other genres, for that matter)going to be a matter of hitting the shutter button and holding it for awhile, and picking the best frame? Not that I'm a skilled professional, but this seems like it would make a lot of pros angry at how easy this will make it to take decent photos. Maybe not 'easy' per se to get pro-quality shots, but it does seem to eliminate the 'timing' necessary to catch peak action.
This makes me want to buy a few rolls of T-Max, and set up a darkroom in my basement.
Well Bob I don't know where this technology will take us but WE'RE on our way. What I DO know is that anyone can take a picture and a few get lucky but the trick is to recognize how, when and what to shoot. There have been 100/250 frame backs for a long time to give the action photographer an edge. The OLD PRO film cameras had a 5 to 10 frane per second with their motordrives. I guess a 60 fr/sec capacity is ok but don't ask me to edit them for the next day sports cast or paper. Even with technology you still have to have an eye (minds eye) for what is good or not and that takes experience for most people. I guess it would be nice to be able to take shots of your kids playing sport or games and be able to capture that one moment. But then there is always video cameras. We'll have to wait an see what Sony does with this technology.
