Sometimes the World (And Your Photos) Look Better Upside down: Give This Easy Trick a Try

San Francisco-based filmmaker Kevin Wolf is lighting up the Internet because of a simple trick he employed to turn a good photograph into a great one: He simply flipped the image upside down.

Wolf was in California’s Yosemite National Park when he captured a nice image of El Capitan—the iconic 3,000-foot vertical rock face in the north side of Yosemite Valley. If the scene looks familiar, that’s because El Cap is not only one of the world’s favorite challenges for experienced rock climbers, but also one of the most photographed spots by the four million visitors to the park each year.

Perhaps because the sky was a bit washed out in Wolf’s original image, he decided to see what it looked like upside down. As soon as he flipped the photo he realized it was a winner, with the sand in the riverbed now appearing as though it was stars in the “sky.”

Sometimes a little ingenuity can make a big difference, and this trick is one to remember. It sure beats standing on your head to take the shot. You can see more of Wolf’s work on his website and Instagram page.
