I have inherited this lens for my old AE-1 and have no idea what it is about.
I am not to smart when it comes to any lens over a 50mm

This lens dates back to at least '79 or '80 at the very, very latest. Soligor (AIC) went ch 11 sometime between '80 to '81. The lens was probably made either by Tokina or Kiron (Kino Precision), both of which are respected lens makers.
The story behind this is a very sad tale of American companies attempting to do business in Japan.
The reps for both Soligor and Kiron were friends of mine.
So, do you know where I can find a tutorial on how to
use it?
It was free so I plan to make good use of it and get some shots of my hummingbirds at the feeder
Hi,
I'm not really familiar with this particular lens, but it may have both a zooming ring and a focusing ring, it it's the one I am thinking of. If it has a single push-pull ring that combines both focus and zooming, then it is a later model. Here is a source for photo equipment manuals:
Maybe you can tell something by a picture of the lens.

Hi,
It's an oldie all right. Probably from the early '70's.
It's a two touch zoom. One ring is to focus and the other ring is zoom. Since it's an F5, I would advise using a tripod since it will pretty much darken your focusing screen.
I can't see the lens mount--are you sure this is made for a Canon camera?? Normally it would have a fairly large chrome ring to turn when you bayonet the lens to the camera, based on the lens's age.
I dont know if it is made for a Canon or not but it fits my AE-1 perfectly.
The ring I turn to lock it in is black. And the bottom looks like the mount on the Canon 50mm that came with the camera.
Hi,
Then it is made for a Canon and should work fione.
I remember lugging those old, slow bricks around back in the day!

I don't mind luggng it around now.
The lens and AE-1 were free and that is the only price I can afford lol.
The one thing that caused me trouble, was that mine was locked into the "macro" mode and I couldn,t figure out how to get out of it. Here is the "secret": your zoom ring push-pulls you into the "macro" mode at the 300mm setting.

Yeah I found it by accident
I thought I had broken it for sure lol.
