I am new to this forum, so if my research has missed previously answers to my question, I apologise in advance.
I have been holding off the switch from my Canon film SLRs (3) to digital for a while now. I mainly shoot landscapes but will be using the proposed replacement for action shots of the kids, wildlife etc.
I was about to plunge for the 5D, with its full-frame sensor, and a couple of key L lenses (16-35 f2.8 L; 70-210 f4 IS L)... but the new 400D throws a spanner in the works. The 400D feels a little small for my hands, but Canon have improved the sensor capability further and added the vibrating sensor cleaning system. Trouble is the wide-angle zoom lenses for the partial-frame sensor don't seem to be available in L series (i.e. the 10-22).
As a friend who is a pro wildlife photographer mentioned, other manufacturers have been making inroads into Canon's 'turf' and Canon haven't made many other major leaps in the past year or two, but their R&D won't have been on holiday. 2007 is Canon's 75th anniversary we believe, so it may be used by them to launch another leap forward in their semi-pro range.
Hence my question... is there any gossip, rumour or (even better) knowledge of what they might release, when might they announce, and when actually ship?
Obviously my particular interest is updating of the 5D, or any full-frame, but all information, gossip, rumour etc gladly received.
Many thanks,
DeeTee
