Slightly OT: Battery Charging

Okay, I am almost ready to make my first overseas trip. Prior to going to Radioshack or Amazon and buying an international converter I read in a "Digital Photography Travel Handbook" that most digital cameras made in the last 5 years have battery chargers which do not require a converter. In the book, he shows a pic of his charger which reads "100V-240V AC......50/60Hz" and then he recommends checking your camera manual for further info. I look at the two cameras I am taking, a Digital SLR and Point-and-shoot and the chargers both have the exact same thing listed. When I look at the manual, it says nothing about international charging.

So, I am off to England (have the plug converters so I can plug my chargers in) and wonder..... Do I need a converter??

ps TIA: did a search on international charging and a few other things, but didn't find the answer. Appreciate your time!!

If your charger has the designation 120/240 110/220 then You are correct -- get an adapter plug - it is an interface between your plug to your charger to the round pin plug for Europe. USA 60 Hz -- Europe 50 Hz, but that does not seem to be a problem. (Now in many hotels there are switch receptacles that when switched to the US type plug, they switch voltage also. But be careful that you switch it properly. have a nice trip -- thing is take more than one or two along precharged batteries oon your trip. Lion hold their charge longer than NiMh or NiCds.

Thanks for the reply. You are correct.... the batteries in both my P&S and my DSLR charged fine with the adapter plug in. I did have 2 batteries for my DSLR, but only one for the P&S (used the P&S for things like going to the pub etc.) Had a super time and took about 800 pics!
