I have 20 years of slides and I need to convert to digital format. I am new at digital, I have a Nikon D50, should I purchase a slide duplicator or a scanner

The best 35mm film scanner for under $5000 is the Nikon Coolscan 5000ED. B&H sells it for about $900. I've scanned thousands of slides with mine over the past two years. Using a slide copying adapter on a digital camera will work for non critical web size images but won't contain the shadow detail that a dedicated film scanner can give you.
