Simultaneous submissions to calendar publishers?

Hi everybody. I'm new to forums so please be gentle with me.

Here's a business question for the pros. I would like to get my photographic work considered for calendars. One publisher I know of reviews submissions in spring and summer, then makes decisions in the autumn. If he turns me down it would be too late to submit to another calendar publisher for the upcoming year. In lieu of any submission guidelines offered by individual publishers, are there any industry accepted practices regarding simultaneous submissions to calendar publishers?

If you have an accurate list of publishers, I'd recommending sending out a cover letter with your submission CD to ALL the publishers simultanously. What's the worst that can happen? You might get accepted by two and if you're really fortunate, they will pick different images.

Each publisher will have it's own interpretation of exclusive. That's the most important issue.

If you wait for a publisher to turn you down before submitting to the next, it'll possibly take you ten years to reach ten publishers. Do you see the logic of simultaneously submitting to all the publishers?

Back in the mid 1980s I had over 70 posters published with three different publishing companies. Each had images from different bodies of work that I had created and I had to change the exclusivity in the contract to be only the images they each had picked, not their exclusive control of me. None had problems with my demands because my work was marketable and I was a prolific shooter.
