I'm considering purchase of one of these pieces of glass to be used on a Nikon D70s. Any recommendations one way or the other??
I have owned the Sigma lens for a 7 months now, and it is awesome. The HyperSonic Motor for focusing is super quiet and the optics are very good. I believe for the price ,the Sigma lens is the way to go , unless money isn't a concern. I have used my for weddings, portraits, wildlife, and everything in between.
I have never used the Sigma..so i cannot comment on it. But I have owned an 80-200mm F/2.8 AFS ED-IF for several years and there is NO FLAW with this lens. It is simply the finest zoom lens in its focal length that I have ever used...and I have used all the Nikon versions. The non AF-S version is similar optically....that's the current version
one thing to consider.... Nikon lenses really hold their value...so long as they are in focal lengths that still make sense for digital ( like this one)..I checked Ebay today and they still sell used for about the price I paid for it five years ago...third party lenses do not hold their value like that. This is an awesome lens....and it is a great focal length for film or digital backs.
