Just purchased new version of the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 a few wks ago. This past weekend, shooting several hundred shots of local soccer games, in rather chilly weather, 30's to 40's, heard 'clacking' sound while it autofocused. Did not hear this previous weekend shooting outside, 50+ temps, nor indoor volleyball game. Is this typical with HSM drives in colder weather? I sent same email to Sigma few minutes ago.
This is my first Pro, and HSM lens. Virtually no sound in warmer temperatures.

It sounds to me like some of the noises I used to hear when shooting football games in the cool weather . I took my lenses back to Nikon and they told me the grease in the focus mechanism had gone too thick when in the cold temperatures and changed it. Never heard the noise again,,ever.! That was an older Nikkor Manual focus lens but it might be worth asking about the grease or whatever they use today.,,,,,,,,,,Roy
