First, Merry Christmas and thank you for the valuable opinions you have given me in the past. It is a great thing to share your knowledge with us. Now, my current issue is that I have been saving to buy a longer lens for wildlife and children's sports photography. I have had my eye on the Sigma 150-500 stabilized zoom, but am wondering if I would be happier with the Canon 300mm f4 L lens. I know the technical differences; the Canon is slightly faster, but doesn't cover the focal length of the zoom, and I can't afford the f2.8 lenses. Of course, if I went with the Canon, I would eventually need to spend lots more to get the longer primes necessary to have the reach of the Sigma. Any thoughts? THanks again, and happy new year.

If I were to make the same choice, I'd go with the Canon L fixed focal length lens and a canon 1.4 teleconverter.
