Shutterbug Photo of the Day: “The Skies Dance” by Sherry Christensen

Today’s Shutterbug Photo of the Day is a real beauty of a shot of the Northern Lights by Sherry Christensen. Christensen is now in the running to win a $1,000 Canon Pixma Pro-1 photo printer or a $500 Gift Certificate from LensRentals.com in our April Photo of the Month contest. Details on how to enter here.

“The aurora borealis dance across the Alberta prairie on a cool and dark spring evening,” Christensen writes about the image. “The stars twinkle and the camera sees what I can't, it was pitch black, not even a sliver of moon! It is a very peaceful and quiet scene.”

She used a Nikon D800, 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens at 15mm, ISO 1250. It’s a 15second exposure on a tripod with a release cable.

See a larger version of the image in the Shutterbug Photo of the Day gallery here. (And you'll definitely want to see it larger to appreciate the detail!)

If you want to enter Shutterbug Photo of the Day, post an image in the Shutterbug Photo of the Day Gallery and include your real name and some background on the image (how and where it was shot; the story behind the image; gear and settings used etc.) in the description field to qualify.

We will select one Shutterbug Photo of the Day image every month to run as a full-page feature in the magazine.
