Shutterbug Photo of the Day: “Ice Beach” by Katherine Plessner

Have you ever seen a big chunk of luminescent ice on a beach during a sunset? We haven’t either, which is why we chose this intriguing image by Katherine Plessner as today’s Shutterbug Photo of the Day.

“This was taken at sunset while on a recent trip to Iceland,” Plessner writes. “I was part of a group of seven women and a local guide for a 10-day photo tour. Our guide explained that chunks of ice break off the glaciers and float down the river, then the waves push them up on the beach.”

Plessner shot the image with a Sony A65 at 35mm focal length. The image was captured at 1/20 sec, f/4.5, ISO 800.

See a larger version of the photo in the Shutterbug Photo of the Day gallery here.

If you want to enter Shutterbug Photo of the Day, post an image in the Shutterbug Photo of the Day Gallery and include your real name and some background on the image (how and where it was shot; the story behind the image; gear and settings used etc.) in the description field to qualify.

We will select one Shutterbug Photo of the Day image every month to run as a full-page feature in the magazine.
