I am shooting with a Konica/Minolta 5D. When I shoot in RAW I get two files with each image. Is that common with other brand cameras? What a pain dealing with two files.

I am not familiar with how that brand handles RAW but this sounds like the RAW + JPEG option in my CANON 20D. Most DSLRs give you three options. RAW, RAW + JPEG, and JPEG. The RAW + JPEG gives you two files. a raw image that you can do processing on for the very best image, and JPEG file for quick printing to show someone the image or for posting on the web. It's not your final printing but is just a tool.
