Thanks for calling my attention to the Wein adapter. I've just bought an E-500, and have been hoping to use one of the flashes I already have until I can afford one of Olympus's dedicated units, but I've been put of by the $100 price of Olympus's PC adapter. Wein's, at half the price, looks pretty attraactive.

Actually, I think that most small flash units should be okay to use with a generic PC adapter, since any 4-AA-cell unit is already at 6 volts, but if you want to work with a studio strobe system, you probably do need to protect your camera's circuits.

I'm a little less certain about putting other manufacturers' strobes into the Olympus's hot shoe, since the manual specifically warns against using non-Olympus flash units that are designed to communicate with the camera. For example, I have a Nikon SB-16 - TTL on Nikon cameras - that I THINK should be OK with a PC connection to the E-500, but I'm worried about putting it in the hot shoe until I can find out for sure that it's OK

Also look at the Nikon AS-15. It's not the adapter that you have to worry about but the trigger voltage of the flash. Best way would be to use a wireless radio control, like Pocket Wizard. But they are much more expensive.

Oly has its own adapter, made by Wein, I think. Available on the Oly site.
