Hi David, In response to your column question about rolled film from 60 years ago, the person who asked the question might look into purchasing the Nikon FH-3 Strip Film Holder which takes up to four frames of unmounted film and fits into the mounted slide adapter on the CoolScan 5000. Single frames (or two, three or four) may not have enough spring to pop the adapter open so the film might be scanned more easily.

Larry,
With film 50-60 years old that has been stored in tightly wound rolls for that time the curl is as strong as if the film were made of spring steel. You first have to get the curl out without damage like breaking or cracking if you tried to flatten it out enough to put it into any kind cut-film scanner carrier.
