Rokinon & Samyang Intro New 100mm F/2.8 Macro & 135mm Cine DS Lenses

Rokinon & Samyang just introduced two new high-end lenses: a 100mm F/2.8 Macro and the new Cine DS 135mm T3.1 Macro. (The Korea-based Samyang company owns the Rokinon brand.)

The versatile 100mm short telephoto focal length in the new Macro lens from Rokinon & Samyang is ideal for portraits and candid shots. The 100mm lens feature a close focusing ability to 12 inches—without the need for additional accessories—and provides an ample working distance and a 1:1 (life size) reproduction ratio.

Both the 100mm F/2.8 Macro and the new Cine DS 135mm T3.1 Macro lenses incorporate circular 9-blade diaphragms for out-of-focus highlights (bokeh), and can stop down to F32 or T32 for maximum depth-of-field.

Additional features include a non-rotating filter mount, 15 high performance glass elements (in 12 groups), ED and High Refractive Index elements, UMC anti-reflective Ultra Multi-Coating, and tight color matching to the Rokinon and Samyang lens systems.

Crafted and optimized for cine and video, the Cine DS 135mm T3.1 Cine DS version offers a de-clicked aperture control, standardized focus (and aperture) gear positions for quick lens changes with follow focus devices, calibration in T-stops, and dual calibrated right and left side distance and aperture scales.

The Rokinon 100mm f/2.8 digital photo lens is compatible with FX sensors or DX sensors, where it will provide a 150mm equivalent focal length. It has a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture that's useful for working in a variety of lighting conditions and the minimum f/32 aperture helps to attain a long depth-of-field when working with close-up subjects.

The lens featurs one high refractive index element and one extra-low dispersion element to control chromatic aberrations and minimize distortions throughout the focusing and aperture ranges. The Ultra Multi-Coating is applied to lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased clarity, contrast and color fidelity.

This manual focus lens features an internal focus design to maintain the overall lens length during use. The front filter mount does not rotate when focusing to better enable the use of polarizers, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning. The Nikon F mount version of this lens features a chip to relay focus confirmation, use of auto-exposure modes, and EXIF data between the lens and camera.

Currently available for pre-order (with a suggested retail price of $549) at any authorized Rokinon or Samyang dealer, the new 100mm f2.8 Macro will be available in lens mounts for Canon, Nikon, Sony E, Sony A, Pentax K, Micro 4/3, Fuji X and Samsung NX, while the 135mm T3.1 Cine DS version will initially be available for pre-order in mounts for Canon EOS, Nikon, Sony E, Sony A and Micro 4/3.
