I own a NIkon D70. Need to take images this weekend that will be enlarged (36x48). THere will be retouching and filtering involved. I need clear and high resolution images. Does anyone have any solutions?
Use a tripod.
What you need to do is use the camera settings that give the highest quality image. Set the ISO to the lowest the camera is capable of. I think it's 200 on the D70. Use a good quality prime lens and support the camera on a tripod. If your exposure is accurate, you'll need less editing in Photoshop. And of course, shoot RAW. Though the D70 captures a compressed NEF, it's still a higher quality file than shooting JPEG.
One last point. Always work on the image at it's full size and save before resizing for your desired print size.
Larry,
You say that the D70, though compressed... as if this is a disadvantage. The compression of the D70 is completely lossless so there are no disadvantages, only the advantage of smaller file sizes.

If the D70 RAW compression is completely lossless, why do they now offer both uncompressed and compressed RAW with the D200?
