I understand File Info is recording aperture but not shutter speed? That shouldn't be happening. What camera are you using, which shooting mode, and in which file format are you saving the images?

I am using Olympus E-500. i mostly shoot on Manual and or Program Priority. all the images, when the come off the camera and onto my computer are in JPEG format. only when i do photoshoots for clients do i shoot in RAW+JPEG. once the images are on my computer and saved, do i open them in photoshop....

That's weird. The only digital images I have with no camera data recorded are those uploaded several years ago through Canon's EOS File Viewer Utility (the old days - PS7 and no Adobe Camera Raw). But for those images, there is no camera data recorded at all. Is all the rest of the File Info there in Camera Data 1 and 2 - Date, pixel dimensions, etc? Have you tried looking at one of the images in ACR and checking the metadata listings there?

this is what is there in camera data 1:

make, model, date time, exposure program, f-stop, max aperature value, ISO ratings, focal length, flash, metering mode.

things that are not present:

shutter speed, aperature value, lens.

everything seems to be alright in camera data 2

where can i find "ACR"?

Sorry, I mean Adobe Bridge. (ACR is Adobe Camera RAW, for editing RAW files before converting to TIFF, JPEG or whatever)

Anyway, check in Bridge and see if the missing File Info is in the metadata list there.....

i dont use the bridge very often (will start using it more) but i cant seem to find the shutter speed in the metadata list . everything else is there.

I'm about to admit being stumped on this one. Maybe it's something unique to the E-500? Is this happening with all the file formats - JPEG, RAW, etc? Also, did it just start recently?

Anybody else with a clue, now's the time to jump in.....

well recently i bought a new computer, with windows vista... it did not happen before on my old computer (i rebuilt that computer from all different part "franken-comp" ). but this year i have upgraded to a laptop (a really nice one)... all the pictures on my new computer are in JPG format. and i cant seem to find the shutter speed...

i will take my computer to my boyfriend (he may know what to do if its computer related)

Ah, well, Windows Vista is a big clue - lots of bugs there! You might try contacting Adobe technical support and see if they're aware of the problem. They might have a work-around solution, if not a fix.

Is the missing information available when you view the EXIF data in other programs? Did the camera require a firmware update at some point?

i normally dont use other programs, only because i have grown up using photoshop(its most familiar to me). also, all the information is all recorded on the camera.

like for example, when i view the pictures on the screen when i am done taking all of my shots (in the car on the way home..)all the info will be there...

it may be the connection to the computer... i am taking my computer in the shop just after the break.

I kind of doubt that you have a problem with your computer, other than bugs in the Vista OS. If you were, you'd be seeing more errors than just the consistent loss of one particular item from your EXIF data.....

From reading this thread it seems likely that the problem is essentially that Vista, like Apple Leopard recently released, are not fully compatible with Adobe Photoshop CS3. You will find some evidence of this in the posts on the Adobe web site reporting a variety of problems that have come to light.

In this regard be patient because announcements are expected from Adobe that will bring their products up to date with both the newest Windows and Apple operating systems.

Sadly however, there is no word as to when Microsoft will provide fixes for the serious Vista problems that affect photography processing in their Color Management system. But that may be the least of Microsoft's problems as some EU countries are still unhappy with Microsoft's virtual monopoly and are mounting an effort to attack MS over Vista.

The bottom line is sadly that photography is not a serious concern at Microsoft. So I really wonder why so few photo enthusiasts switch to where photography and graphics are better supported, on the much more friendly Apple Macs??????

BTW considering Adobe Photoshop Elements was released since Vista, would it in fact recognize and display all of the EFIX data from cameras on this user's Vista laptop?
