I prefer the Nikon CoolScan. I have two 5000 ED scanners with bulk feeders and get excellent results. The CoolScan V is a less expensive version that captures at the same high resolution. It's very easy to use. Just put the transparency into the slot in the front.

Contrary to what Larry's opinion is, although the Nikon hardware is good, the software driver is the worst, and Nikon scanners are grossly overpriced.

So I would suggest you might look at a Plustek OpticFilm 7200i I tried out recently that has almost twice the resolution, great Lasersoft SilverFast software with iSRD infrared sensor dust and scratch cleaning, and is just $399.

And, for just a few dollars more you can get Epson's latest Perfection V700 that scans everything, has Digital ICE, and Lasersoft Silverfast SE, and also scans slide at a higher resolution than the Nikon.
