Raw to Jpeg

I am confused. I shoot with a canon 30D camera in raw. When I open Photoshop 5.0 an edit them in raw to jpeg the jpeg version of the same picture is terrible. I do no editing to them just convert to jpeg and the color is really bad. I am using windows vista and and I have done the updates from adobe. Everything works fine; I just don

If in fact you are saving in Raw format and using Adobe Camera Raw to convert, you are seeing all of the color gamut (range of colors the sensor responds to and records in the Camera Raw workspace), but if Photoshop is using sRGB as the default color space associated with the save into JPEG, then the color information is being reduced by as much as 30% to the much smaller sRGB color space. This could be one cause of what you are seeing, but there might also be other Color Management issues involved depending and/or how your system is, or is not, color managed.
