Hello All!
Does anyone know a Free (good) RAW conversion software?
Thanks!
Matt
If you have a camera that saves in Raw format, the camera is usually accompanied by a CD with a Raw file converter, that in terms of image translation quality usually exceeds what you would get from most of the "independent" 3rd party applications. What those 3rd party applications provide are easy-to-use, convenient, utilities and tools for color correction, editing and ways to use the the image that are usually not as well supported by camera company free software.
If you obtained a dSLR camera used or as a gift without the software you can probably just down load the Raw converter from the company's web site.
Yeah,
I bought my XT off of craigslist, He didnt give me the software. I tried to download it off of the Canon site, but it wasnt there. I called them, the lady told me I had to buy it for $20.
Matt
Maybe put the $20 towards getting a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0. That would provide both conversion as well as a fully functional image editor to do something you want with your photographs.
Yes, I already know about all of that, I just want a simple answer to this question (e.g. 123RAW converter can be found at www.example.com)
THanks!
Matt
Assuming you're running Windows XP, here is the closest thing you'll find to a "free" RAW converter - and I don't think it will do everything you want:

Other than that, I think you already have the best answers from David. I'm not aware of any free RAW conversion software out there, although I suppose you could Google it to fine out.
Have you tried contacting the guy who sold you the camera? He may still have the original bundled CDs that came with it, if he's the original owner.
Even the Canon Digital Photo Professional can be downloaded from the Canon web site and it is free, as is all software for Canon cameras.
Go to: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...p;modelid=11154
David, I think DPP can only be downloaded as an update, and the original software must be installed first. I'm not sure about some of the other Canon downloads, such as RAW Codec.

See

So, if you bought a Canon dSLR camera and did not get the CD, why is that? Or if it was lost before the DPP was installed, why is that? That Canon does not provide a solution for people who have not got their act together, is that something we should fault Canon for?
The fact is the Canon DPP software is free to anyone who has a Canon camera that has raw capabilities, and it is not much value to people who do not. If a Canon camera user does not install the CD when the camera is new, who is responsible? So what are you all saying?
Check out these downloads for canon Rebel XT for Windows Xp. you can get for other OS, it is no problem.
I have yet to have any difficulty in downloading any Canon product. Whey would Canon not let anyone download generic stuff -- Why would a Nikon owner or other owner want Canon products?
Go to this site
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...p;modelid=11154
you can find other things from there
good luck
AS mentioned don't blame Canon.
Does an "updater" do anyone any good if they don't have a copy of the original application installed. Isn't that the point of discusion, that you need the original installed from a CD sold with a camera to have access and use of Canon Digital Professional?????
