Rare Lens Alert: Giant Leica R 600mm F/5 Lens Goes on Sale for $230,000

Another extremely rare, very large, and very expensive lens has gone on sale on eBay. This time it’s a one-of-a-kind, all-black Leica R 600mm, F/5 Apo-Telyt Unicum lens, which has an asking price of $229,999.

The 11-pound lens is a prototype and is the only copy of this model every produced, according to PetaPixel. The protoype was made for the Leica R, 35mm SLR camera system but never went into production.

The seller is the the Austria-based Photo Arsenal, which describes the lens as in “like new condition, without signs of wear.” (For that asking price, we should hope so!)

In December, a humungous Nikon 2000mm F/11 lens went on eBay for $32,777, which seems like a relative bargain compared to this one-off piece of glass from Leica.
