I just received a N75 (used from Ebay). As I look thru the viewfinder, it is very dark (low lit). The batteries are probably dead because the electronic LCD does not come on. Does the camera have to be powered on to see a bright clear image thru the viewfinder. I did switch lenses and the same happened. When I look thru my DSLR with the power off, the viewfinder is bright and clear. What would cause this to happen ? I have no manuals for the camera and I'm just a newbie to SLR photgraphy.

had the same problem with my N75......sounds like the mirror, cost is a bit over $100 to repair, which I did, would not repair this camera again, despite having a load of accessories. also, note the kit lens is made of plastic and that broke too....another bunch of $$$$$$.......Nikon is not what it used to be......mine I purchased new, used very little, and two major problems.
