Purple rim around subjects

Hi. Don't know if I'm in the right topic but I was wondering why I am getting a purple rim around my subjects in my digital photos and how to avoid it? Thanks.

PC World has a good article on their web site that describes why it happens and suggests a way to minimize it in Photoshop or Elements.
