I'm shooting a family portriat tomorrow for friends. The first time since I went digital. They want to see proofs to decide which image they like best before they buy some prints
How do I come up with proofs shooting digital? Thanks in advance!
The same way you did as with film.
If you are not into post processing, just take the card down to the place where you had your film printed and hand them the card.
If you have an ink jet photo printer, proofsheets can be generated by a host of programs. Photoshop and Elements, Paint Shop Pro, ACDSee and even freeware IrfanView and Picasa and I expect there are a number of others. The ones listed are programs on my system.
Some have fixed templates, others will let you specify the number of rows and columns and Paint Shop Pro allows you to drag and drop as well as resize. The end result is something that closely resembles the traditional proof sheet. Once the sheet or sheets are generated by the program, multiple copies can be easily printed.
Some of these programs will also create slide shows that will run on computers, allowing the relatives to view the images full screen. The slide-show file can be burned on CDs or DVDs for distribution.
Thanks guys. Yeah I checked into picasa2 they let you burn a "gift CD" that plays like a slide show. I think I'll try that out.
Thanks again
