If you want to maximize your enjoyment of inkjet printing, Epson is the way to go. They have had a very favorable reputation with photographers for many years now and are still today the leaders.

Unless you are printing on heavy papers for permanent matting and sale, art gallery type stuff, you can't beat Canon for high quality images. When my old Epson gave up the ghost 5 years ago, I switched to Canon because it would print edge to edge, individual ink tanks are cheaper, and paper was cheaper. Epson has now adopted individual ink tanks and has droplet size down to 3 picoliters but Canon is still at 2 picoliters.

I am still using my Canon i960 that is not made any more. Look around, you should still be able to find one.

Thanks for your input everyone, I really do appreciate it. One other question, the printer that I get must do dual duty as my everyday printer. Not that I print very much at home, but my daughter is in school so there are times that she does need it. Do the Canon or Epson printers support duplex printing? I've been trying to find out but haven't been able to get anywhere.

You probably want to be staying away from duplex printing on an inkjet machine. The ink tends to bleed through when it's on both sides. If you really need duplex printing, use a heavier than normal paper.

Most of the new Canon Pixma series printers support duplex printing and it does come in very handy.
As to which printer, of the options you're looking at the HP will give you the best results for black and white as well as excellent color. The Canon is hard to beat for color prints, and the Epson wins hands down if you want a variety of paper types and wish to print with roll paper.

Ain't walking in the dark great? I've gone thru the same thing and hoping to be a genius soon!! I bought An Epson R300 to start, because I could afford it, it was a brand talked about a lot in photo magazines and I liked the way it looked. That's all I knew.

Now I know a bit more. Otis, my dog, slobbered some water on a print I did on a n HP 375 and the ink ran. I tried the same thing with my R300; the ink don't run! I ran them under the water tap, same results for both. So I loan out my HP 375 to friends and got an Epson picturemate to catty with me. Courious, I stopped in an Office Depot and did a test print on a new Cannon and did the water test. It didn't run! As far as being good images go, they all looked fine to me. But I have three Epsons, the third a 66, I think its called, that I keep at my mothers so I have a printer when I'm there. Pictures look ok to me! If I change, it'll be a Cannon.
