My trusty Canon 8500 printer had started to have poor print quality, so I am in the market for a new printer. I mainly print 8X10 landscapes (lots of greens and blues here in Hawaii) and action shots of my kids. The upper end of my price range is $500. Currently I am condsidering the Canon 9000 mark II or the Epson R1900 (both cost about $400) I have also been looking at the Epson 2880 which is on sell for $600. It is a little out of my price range, but if there is a huge difference I might be able to manage it.
Any Advise would be appreciated.

If you are printing for color and want the prints to last the Epson R1900 may be the best choice for the money.

I'd like to 2nd that... the Epson R1900 is a great printer and it looks like your getting a good price as well.

i am thinking of moving on also. How is ink pricing -- maybe comparison to Canon? I like to print a lot -- I know I can use Mpix and such, but ... . Thank you.

Over the years I have tested a lot of printers and with the brand name inks have never found any significant difference in cost per print between any of them - it's a competitive business. So not a real issue affecting choice, whether the printer reproduces the kind of print image that satisfies is a difference, but that has more to do with individual tastes than anything else.

The question was because I hear so many opinions, and from your experience, and what I have found myself, I go along with what your answer. I have to be careful when I ask some self-appointed experts. It is pretty much as with most -- it depends upon what satisfies the person. And with this, I believe I will hang on to what has been doing a good job for what I want. Thanks.

Nothing better than your own personal experience whenever it is available. But then we all make mistakes occassionally!
