I have worked with these tools and they make exposure much less challenging, esepcially in high contrast conditions, than ever b

I have used D-lighting while in tropical (hard shadows) locales--it can save a shot.

My only experience is with HDR braketing. It is quite useful and when buying it is one of the features a new camera must have for me to purchase it.

My Sony A700 features various dynamic range settings. I have used them to great effect in high contrast situations. Definitely a major feature, but you need to read the manual because of the number of settings.

I have used D-Lighting and found to work very well in limited situations, i.e, it won't replace my Lee split ND filter or my polarizer when used to manipulate shutter speed and not as a solution for unwanted reflectance.

I choose to set my own setting for HDR photos as this tools do not cover most of the ranges needed.
