About the same, Frans - nothing moving in the two galleries I've been in recently. And it's not just photography, art sales in general are in the toilet. I've decided that it's time to hunker down and concentrate on organizing and expanding my portfolio, and wait for better times. Good luck to you, though......

What kind of advertising do they do and who do they target? A frequently held show in a fixed location eats through the potential buyers rather fast. I've spoken to a lot of artists doing shows and most tell me that they are doing OK. Sales may be slightly down but they're doing better than expected. My local show here in Pittsburgh, Three Rivers Art Festival, went from three weeks to two weeks for the first time in over thirty years this past June and for the first time everyone I spoke to said they were having a good show. I walked the show both weeks so I saw 240 artists.

Every first Thursday of every month from April through November I participate in a "street gallery" where artists sell their wares between 5pm and 10pm in a street in Portland, Oregon where 3 city blocks have been closed for traffic. This year at the early July event I sold less than 1/3 of what I sold early July last year. Same time of year, same location, same gorgeous weather, same products.
