Looking for a good photobackpack. Or would a regular backpack with regular lens cases be more suitable.
Planning to visit Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Arches National Parks this summer.
How big do you want it? How much photo equip are you planning to carry? I really like the new Tamrac Adventure Series Backpacks. The 7 series carries a good amount of gear and also allows for a jacket, snacks or whatever.

I have recently bought this backpack and I like the size of it a lot. It is a very comfortable way to carry my digital SLR, an extra lens, an external flash, a mini tripod and some (but not much) other stuff.
And it is a great bonus to be able to walk around looking like a student (although a rather old one) and not like some photo enthusiast.

I got a Tamrac Expedition 7 and it's pretty huge. It was $150. The expedition 5 would probably work pretty good. The tamrac website has the dimensions.
I also use the Expedition Series backup. One word of advise. I out grew the first one in less than 3 months and was back at B&H buying the next size up. If you are doing the GC I suggest purchasing a bit bigger that nessary for you at this point and time. You for sure will want to carry some extras like sunglasses, poncho etc. The extra size will not be waisted.
By the way they are extremely comfortable. I humped ALL my camera gear around St. Louis in 102 degree tempature for a week last summer without issue.
Good Luck
I have the Tenba 15C, which I really like. It, and the slightly larger 17C have a padded, very accessable laptop compartment which can be used to carry other things (books, folders, folded reflectors, etc) if you don't need to carry a laptop. It has a lot of thoughtful features, like great access to contents, as well as some cute features like a hidden rain cover and waterproof panel you can sit on.
I also like the look and feel of the exterior compared to the thin, canvas-like feel of some of the nylon backpacks.
Overall, I'd recommend the Tenba, especially if you can find it on ebay at less than retail price, which is high.
I agree that bigger is better, but watch out for the 45" constraints in airliner overhead bins. You don't want to gate check it. These packs don't compress much. However, mine is nominally a bit oversized but does fit in overhead bins without any shoving (whew).
