I have the R800 also. That was the one thing I did not check out before I bought it. It works very nice with the premium photo glossy paper. I have used the Gallery Select Fuji which is 280g/m. It goes through but have not been happy with the results. Monte Johnson.

I think if you will consult the instruction guide that comes with the Epson R800 printer you will find there is a straight through paper path that is accessible and will accommodate thick, heavy paper stock. It is a bit tricky to find because you have to drop the front open and then lift up on the front cover so it locks in a higher position providing the access for loading thick stock one sheet at a time.

You obviously do not have an R800...

Sorry, you are correct about very thick papers, and the fact a straight-thru path is not available with the R800. I just handle some time too many printers, and most recently worked with the R1800 and R2400. The R1800 will do everything you want and provides the same ink advantages as the R800,

I only wish at the time I had bought the R800 I would have checked to see what paper it took. I reserched a lot of printers before I bought this one. It only makes sense to me to upgrade if I do to the 2400 now. The only problem now my R800 is worth nothing used. With the current situation in the midwest on our natural gas hike this winter many things now are just uncertain. I just would like to be able to print 11+14 or 12+18 prints at the least. 8+10 prints are nice,but I like the bigger one and would really like to try the better papers. The R800 is really limiting me there, I would have to say my biggest road block for a new printer is trying to sell the idea to my wife. She does not share my passion. Monte Johnson.

I should think because the R800 is a current printer someone would pay a fair price for it. But although I have been a widower for almost 15 years, affording the new R2400 is not a sure thing for me either. I hesitate as much because I like to print on the best fine arts papers and over time that costs more than the printer.

Sorry I can't help with a pitch for your wife. When my wife was living as long as I agreed to her spending what she liked without question, I got to spend what I needed to for myself.

Thanks for the advice. You are right the printer would be the least investment for me also. As far as my wife most oft he time she says little because she has her own thing going, but would notice a new printer real quick. Sorry to hear about your wife 15 years is a long time. Monte Johnson.

For what its worth, I bought a refurbished Canon i960 (6-colors) for $99 that I will use for the thicker stuff and the images are fairly colorfast (about 25 years) and look great on the cotton rag...
