old equipment compatibility

I know this topic has been beaten to death but I still have a few questions. I have an old Nikon 8008 and 3 AF lenses that I bought with the camera. I also have an SB24 flash and an even older sunpack basic auto thyristor flash. I am interested in going for a D50 or stepping up to a D80. Can I use any of this old stuff. I know the flash won't be TTL so I would need to use it in manual mode. Not a big deal, I'm a big fan of bouncing my flash. I understand the lens situation in that my 35 - 70 zoom will be more like a 52 - 105 mm but the lack of metering confuses me. I will basically have to figure out the apeture and shutter speed? Will the auto focus still work?

With all of these losses it levels the playing field and going nikon provides little advantage.

My older autofocus lenses work with the D200 and also did with the D70, but I don't own any of the cameras you're considering so I can't say. Love the SB-24. I have two and have always used them on manual with the Nikon CoolPix cameras. I recently purchased three SB-800's to use wireless iTTL with the D200 and it's killer. Something for you to consider.

I read in a different thread you've used SB-24s with a digital camera. My D70s will not fire my SB-28 either in the hotshoe or with the SC-17 cord. Is the SB-24 the only "old" flash that will work with the new cameras? And would it kill them to put a PC socket on these????

If I remember correctly, my D70 used to fire my SB-24s using the SC-17 cord. But it didn't give you TTL and had to be used on manual.

I'm still looking for an answer. The SB-24 will fire (although only in manual) from a D70s but the SB-28 won't? Just trying to make sure there isn't something I missed.
